Craftivism: Art with a Message

How can we create meaningful actions for our environment? How can we channel our feelings about climate change into action to make others aware?

Our project began after remote learning had begun. Students picked one work of art and wrote a response to it, answering questions like ‘What did you like about this work? What questions come to mind when you see this art?’

Students learned about “craftivism” and collected items in their own home to create art in response to current global and national issues and movements that were important to them, including climate change, COVID19 and Black Lives Matter.

As a final project students curated their “craftivism” works using self portraiture.

Students were entirely in charge of what they submitted and how they wanted to be seen.
